A quick assembly of mostly pantry staples and you will have a satisfying, healthy snack. I know black pepper and turmeric sounds like odd choices, but they add subtle undertones that compliment the cocoa powder. The best part is that it can be made one-handed (as I type this one-handed, holding a sleeping toddler!) and helps add the right fuel to a busy mom’s day.
Cinnamon not only tastes great but also may contribute to lower blood sugar levels and reduced cholesterol. Black pepper adds a subtle kick as well as its own contribution of antioxidants. Turmeric blends nicely with the warmth of cinnamon and cocoa while adding a powerful array of health benefits. Fun fact: pairing black pepper and turmeric together unleashes turmeric’s ability to absorb into our bodies. Something this delicious with such potent health benefits is a win-win!
As with most of my recipes, this Power Protein Snack Shake is highly versatile. Increase or decrease the spices, omit or add others, add a spoonful of peanut butter for even more protein (and a yummy chocolate-peanut butter taste!), add a splash of cooled coffee, etc. If you’re attempting to kick sugary drinks in the morning or as your afternoon pick-me-up, this is a good place to start. Simply add a spoonful, or two, of honey. Then as your tastebuds adjust, gradually reduce the honey.

Power Protein Snack Shake
Equipment
- 1 Blender or Frother
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 scoop protein powder I use Garden of Life Protein and Greens Vanilla Flavor
- 2 tsp mushroom coffee powder I use Live Conscious Beyond Brew
- 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder regular or dark
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp dried ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp fresh cracked black pepper
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients and blend or froth. Can also use a shaker or whisk. Drink immediately.
