This sweet, smokey, thick BBQ sauce is ridiculously easy and fast to whip up. Delicious on ribs, chicken, and mac and cheese, this is our go-to sauce for our BBQ Chicken Pizza recipe.
Just like our larger batch version for pantry storage, this recipe is totally versatile, easily becoming sweeter or even spicy, with a few moderations. Use it as your base and go from there!
Sweet, Smokey, Thick BBQ Sauce (Small Batch)
A small batch of this kid-friendly favorite. Sweet, smokey and thick BBQ sauce is the perfect addition to ribs, chicken, mac and cheese and more!

- 1/4 cup blackstrap molasses
- 1/8 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp prepared mustard

- 1 tsp pink Himalayan salt
- 1/4 tsp white black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a stockpot or saucepan and whisk until everything is blended thoroughly.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until just to boiling point.
- Lower heat and simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Once cooled, store in airtight container in fridge for up to a month.
Notes
I like using ketchup that is made with real sugar. If using a low-sugar variety, increase sugar accordingly.ย
Molasses – I prefer the taste and sweetness of blackstrap molasses. If using a different variety, keep in mind that blackstrap is the least sweet of the bunch. So adjust your measurements accordingly.ย
For less molasses flavor (The Hubby isn’t a big molasses fan) reduce the amount of molasses and substitute brown sugar or white sugar in its place.ย
Salt- if pink Himalayan isn’t available, any fine sea salt or even table salt works as well.ย
